Project Description

The Star Kids Film Internship Program is primarily to help youths aged 13  thru 19 who live in the Central Area of Seattle, who are interested in learning more about the film industry. As production assistants on the Star Kids film crew the interns will be given an intensive filmmaking course and be coached by professional film mentors. Our hope is that the participants who complete the program will be able to get crew positions on "professional and independent films in the Seattle area." If you know of an interested teen please have them contact us. If you are a filmmaker and would like to be a mentor please contact us.

What will the Internship Program be like and what will it Achieve?

The Internship Program will achieve many positive results for the participants and the community:

· Interns will leave the project with real-world film experience in various aspects of film production, including, but not limited to the areas of camera, sound, wardrobe, and production. Youths will work hands-on as production assistants directly under film professionals in their fields.

· Youth participants will have an orientation session where they will be introduced to the film crew, and given an understanding of what's expected of them for their particular positions.

· The Internship Program will help produce films for kids that teens helped to produce in the Seattle area that will be distributed by the Dream Power Foundation! The films will feature African American children in a positive light, and will teach young people the positive values of truth, peace, love, and unity.

Interns will be production crew members, and be provided with a pamphlet containing resources, information, and contacts in the film industry for pursuing a further career in film.

This project will further help the community by helping youth in the community, where they can also be educated and gain experience in the film industry. The film created as an outcome of the program will also be distributed and screened in the Central District and surrounding region of Seattle through our community partners and youth organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Finally, after learning new skills and successfully completing an internship, participants will be left with a confidence that will allow them to take more of a leadership role in determining the direction of their lives. They will know more about what they are capable of and how interested they really are in pursuing a career in the film industry.

Outreach Strategy
We will inform the community about the Internship Program through one or more of the following methods: (1) notifying schools in the area. (2) Posting flyers at community centers, libraries, etc., and (3) utilizing Craig's list and (4) possible press releases to the media at certain strategic points during the program. (5) Maintaining a website with information and updates.
